Japanese top legislators vow to deepen ties with Viet Nam
Japan’s top legislators have said their country’s legislation body will support agreements reached by leaders of Japan and Viet Nam, contributing to deepening bilateral ties.
Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Kono Yohei and President of the Japanese House of Councillors Eda Satsuki made the remarks at separate meetings with visiting Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet in Tokyo on November 27.
At the meetings, President Triet expressed thanks from the State and people of Viet Nam to the Japanese Parliament for their support to Viet Nam’s renewal (Doi Moi) process during the past years.
President Triet said he believed the leaders of the Japanese Parliament would continue to contribute to boosting friendship and cooperation between the two countries in general and the two parliaments in particular.
President Triet conveyed invitations of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong to Speaker Kono Yohei and President Eda Satsuki to visit Viet Nam.
The same day, President Triet separately received leaders from four Japanese giants, including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Sumitomo, Marubeni and Itochu Groups.
President Triet said Viet Nam was determined to create an increasingly favourable investment environment for foreign investors, including those from Japan, to do business in the country.
The President said that in addition to three Japanese ODA-funded mega-projects - the North-South Rail, the North-South Highway and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park – that Viet Nam has many other mega-projects that need investment and assistance from Japanese economic groups.
He said Viet Nam welcomes Japanese companies’ participation in implementing these projects.
Also on November 27, President Triet and Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai witnessed the signing of 14 agreements worth more than 4.2 billion USD between Vietnamese and Japanese businesses.
