Ambassador to further push Viet Nam-Japan ties
(14/02/2008) Ha Noi – Viet Nam-Japan relationship is heading forwards a strategic partnership, said the newly-appointed Ambassador to Japan , Nguyen Phu Binh, adding that he, in the new position, would work at his best to promote the bilateral ties.
Talking with a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on February 14 at the beginning of his term in Japan , Binh asserted he would help to intensify high-level exchanges between the two countries’ leaders.
Binh revealed that Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong will visit Japan in March and Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has received an official invitation from the Japanese side for a Japan visit on an appropriate time. Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has also agreed to visit Viet Nam in a near future.
According to Binh, Viet Nam and Japan are preparing a number of large-scale activities to mark the 35th establishment anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year.
The celebrations will include a Japan festival in Viet Nam scheduled for May and a Viet Nam festival in Japan ’s Tokyo and Fukuoka cities slated for September, he said.
Also this year, the two countries will accelerate key infrastructure projects in Viet Nam , including projects to build the North-South Railway Express and Highway, and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, and projects to reduce traffic jams in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City .
Viet Nam will facilitate Japanese small and medium-scale businesses, particularly those of advanced technology, to invest in the development of auxiliary industries in the country, according to the ambassador.
“ Viet Nam will step up its education cooperation with Japan ,” Binh said, adding that the country will give incentives for Japanese universities to open their branches in the country.
Ambassador Binh said the two countries also pay attention to developing the relations between their localities, and the authorities of many Japanese localities have shown their interest in expanding their ties with Vietnamese provinces and cities.
