US$5 bln in FDI disbursed in five months

As much as US$4.95 billion in FDI were disbursed in the period, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%.
As of May 20, 592 investment projects were licensed with a total registered capital of US$2.95 billion, equal to 72.9% of the same period last year.
A total number of 210 projects were added with the investment of US$1.34 billion, accounting for 80.6% of the same period last year.
The processing and manufacturing sector took the lead in attracting FDI with US$3.15 billion in 269 newly-registered projects and 142 additional projects, making up 73.4% of the total.
It was followed by the real estate sector with US$461.5 million in 17 projects and the retail sales sector with US$234.12 million in 111 projects.
The Republic of Korea was the largest investor in Viet Nam over the past five months of the year with US$1.1 billion, making up 25.7%, followed by British Virgin Islands and Turkey with US$663.24 million and US$660.2 million, accounting for 15.4% and 15.3%, respectively.
Ho Chi Minh City led 40 cities and provinces in drawing FDI with a total newly-registered and additional capital of 983.5 million, making up 22.9%. It was followed by the southern province of Dong Nai and the northern city of Hai Phong with US$948.7 million and US$319.3 million, respectively.
