Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng made the statement when attending the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST).

Accordingly, it is necessary to intensify investment in scientific and technological development, train human resources, honor and give special treatment to talented scientists, perfect and develop the technological market, deepen scientific research, boost up economic restructuring through using scientific and technological advances, and further apply technology in all sectors to enhance competitiveness of products and services.

The Government leader also emphasized the need to expand international cooperation in science and technology, especially making use of scientific and technological products of foreign countries to directly serve the domestic production.

Over the past 50 years, the science and technology sector has made significant contributions to the national socioeconomic development. Especially, since 1986 the MST has proactively taken a direct part in mapping out Việt Nam’s orientations and policies on scientific and technological development.

In agriculture, the sector has played a key role in producing and multiplying crop varieties and animal breeds to increase productivity.

Thanks to scientific and technological renovations in industry,, Việt Nam has succeeded in manufacturing many precise or oversized products.

The sector has also helped to raise the country’s medicine standard to the regional level. Việt Nam has been able to produce 9 out of 10 kinds of vaccines used for compulsory vaccination.

Besides, the sector has expanded cooperative ties with partners in over 70 countries and territories, and joined nearly 100 international and regional scientific and technological organizations.
