Noi Bai, Hai Duong Potential International Airport Project
The Government website quoted the deputy prime minister as saying at a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday that ministries and agencies should exert every effort to ensure the new terminal, or T2, would be completed by the end of 2011 and 3e put into use in 2012.
The new terminal was previously scheduled for completion in 2015, a time when the existing terminal will encounter serious overload. Therefore, the deputy prime minister wanted appropriate measures right in place to fasten the pace of the project.
Deputy PM Hai told ministries and Hanoi to select the contractors, as well as find funds in advance for site clearance, consulting and design fork to make it easier for the project to progress faster.
He also ordered the Ministry of Transport to map out five design alternatives instead of the three existing schemes for relevant agencies to comment on and help select the best design.

The ministry was told to propose various construction schemes to ensure the country's major project ill meet architecture and modernity factors as well as the growth in e passenger number in the long term.
He also wanted the ministry to redo the feasibility study for the terminal project, with details in bidding, construction supervision and total cost estimate close to reality.
The new terminal is estimated to cost nearly US$850 million and need 30 months for completion. This four-storey building will have usable space of 120,000 square meters.
Work is expected to start on the new terminal later this year, and this building is designed to handle 10 million passengers a year.
The current terminal capable of handling six million passengers will serve domestic flights when the second terminal is put into operation. Last month, the Government appproved a master zoning plan to expand and develop the existing Noi Bai International Airport into a place able to receive bigger aircraft and more air passengers.
The plan envisages the airport will have at least two runways for Boeing 747s, Airbus A380s and other modern aircraft to land and take off by 2020. By that year, the airport will be able to handle 20-25 million passengers and 260,000 tons of cargo or more every year.
The parking area for aircraft will also be expanded to accommodate at least 29 planes and 43 when the demand grows. The plan also includes construction of new international-standard developments such as one more runway and a third terminal to enable the airport to receive 50 million passengers after 2030.
* The Central Airports Authority has released the general zoning plan approved by the Prime Minister for developing Danang International Airport in the 2015-2025 period. The airport will be upgraded at a total cost of VND4.497 trillion until 2025, including VND2.683 trillion to be spent between now an 2015.
According to the zoning plan, the airport will have its runway extended to3,500 meters by 2015 for large passenger jets like B777, A300 or A6001 land or take off. There will also b two parallel taxiways, an express taxi way and a shortcut.
The parking area will be upgrade to accommodate 21 airplanes in stead of ten now, while the international terminal should be able to handle four million passengers a year.
