WB pledges to support VN to realize MDGs
The Informal Mid-Year Consultative Group (CG) Meeting is a good chance for the Vietnamese Government and its partners to discuss the national major challenges amid the global crisis and figure out proper solutions to promote socio-economic development and poverty reduction, underscored Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Country Director in Việt Nam.
Ms. Victoria Kwakwa held that Việt Nam's socio-economic reality has recorded remarkable achievements, including higher per capita income and a comprehensive framework strategy on anti-corruption.

Việt Nam is advised to make full use of advantageous fields for stronger competitiveness. WB will provide further assistance to the country to fulfill its development goals, particularly focusing on development programs and vulnerable groups affected by the crisis, stated Ms. Victoria Kwakwa.
The CG Meeting, kick-started today in Buôn Ma Thuột City in the Central Highland province of Đắk Lắk, will mainly discuss economic development and prospect for 2009, social impacts caused by the global economic recession, Government’s adaptation policies, reports of the Việt Nam Business Forum on public administration and anti-corruption, climate change, and procedures harmonization.
It was reported that donors pledged to grant over US $5 billion for programs on poverty reduction and development in Việt Nam in the CG Meeting 2008 in Hà Nội.
