Ministry of Science and Technology delegation visiting and working in Yunnan, China

To strengthen the cooperative relations with Yunnan, China in cultivating and developing rubber-trees as well as learning Hi-Tech development experience, the delegation of Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam headed by Vice Minister cum Chairman of Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park Management Board, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang took a working visit to the Yunnan Agricultural Fresh Ground Breaking Corporation and the Kunming Hi-Tech Park, Yunnan on 17 August, 2010.

On the same morning, the delegation collaborated with the Consulate General of Vietnam in Kunming to work with the Yunnan Agricultural Fresh Ground Breaking Corporation. During working time, the Corporation’s leaders introduced to the team general natural features and status of cultivating and developing rubber trees in Yunnan in particular and in China in general. Dr. Lang also had a speech of situation of rubber tree development in Vietnam.

Yunnan has been growing rubber trees on a fairly large area (470 thousand hectares equal to 47% of rubber plantation area throughout the country) in inconvenient natural conditions while the average yield reaches up 1.7 tons per hectare. It is admirable” Dr. Lang said.

There are a lot of similarities in natural conditions between the North West provinces of Vietnam and Yunnan, so the cooperation of developing rubber trees is to help to improve farmers livelihood and reduce poverty.

On the same day, the delegation visited and worked with the Kunming Hi-Tech Park. According to the Vice Chairman of Kunming Hi-Tech Park, the park was established in 1992 on an area of 5 km2 for Phase I. It has been recognized as national Hi-Tech Park with the average value of 14.1 billion Yuan/km2.

Currently, there are 10 enterprises with asset value of over 1billion Yuan, about 50 enterprises with asset value of over 100 million Yuan and many others with asset value of over 10 million Yuan in the Kunming Hi-Tech Park. The investors here come from 23 different countries such as UK, USA, France, Japan, Russia, Germany, Australia... with main investment fields including new material, biotechnology, and environmental protection. Now, the Kunming Hi-Tech Park is expanding for its Phase II with the infrastructural investment capital total of 5 billion Yuan on 89.6 km2 area. The master plan has been completed.

Further discussion on developing hi tech park, Mr. Lang asked more details about business incubators, universities, and preferential policies on tax, customs, land rent ... which are being applied for the Kunming Hi-Tech Park.

The meeting last in the open and friendly atmosphere with a lot of good cooperation results reached.
