Foreign workers allowed to join trade unions
Foreign workers employed in Viet Nam under labor contracts of 12 months or more shall be allowed to join trade unions at their workplaces.
This is the latest regulation in the revised Trade Union Law which was approved by the National Assembly on November 27.
Foreign workers are encouraged to join trade unions to share their knowledge, skills, and experiences.
They are enabled to contribute to promoting linkages between domestic and foreign workers.
In addition, as members of trade unions, foreign workers could protect their rights and voice their opinions, ensuring that both foreign and domestic workers have equal access to representation and advocacy.
The right for foreign workers to join trade unions represents the open, progressive, and integrative development of Viet Nam's trade union system in line with global labor practices.
The newly passed law comprises six chapters and 37 articles and is expected to come into effect from July 1, 2025.
The law sustains the contribution rate for trade union fees at 2 percent./.
