UK-Vietnam Partners in natural products workshop

Ministry of Science and Technology, Hoalac Hi-tech Park Management Board co-ordinated with Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and related organizations organized a workshop on “natural products and UK-Vietnam cooperation opotunity” on February 17^th ,2011.

On the Vietnam side, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang – Vice Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology cum Chairman of Hoalac Hi-Tech Park Management Board, Ass. Prof. Nguyen Van Tuyen- Director of Institute of Chemistry, and typical scienctist representing Departments, Institutes, and Universities of the country attended.

On the United Kingdom side, Prof.. Mervyn Bibb, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, Prof. Marcel Jaspars, Aberdeen University, Prof. Greg Challis Warwick University and other scientist representing faculty, Universities of the UK.At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang said that this is a vital condition to exchange experiences, and to find the cooperation opportunity for both sides, especially on the natural products.

Scientists introduced some new topics, new scientific researchess and new discoveries, which had been and have been operated to introduce to daily life. They discussed, exchanged and deeply analyzed the natural products originated from microbial, marine creatures, marine plants, fungi and exploiting gene resources which are highly applicable.

Beside, the scientists also give prominent to the diversity of the natural products resources of Vietnam and have some studies to discover more compounds which can be used medicines for human or for agriculture.

The workshop ended up with a prospects of future scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and UK.
