Cooperation for developing stem cell technology
With the aim at promoting the development and application of stem cell technology in Vietnam, Vice Minister of Science and Technology cum Chairman of Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang; Vice Minister of Health cum Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital, Prof. Nguyen Viet Tien along with representatives of Vinacell Company; Hi-tech Business Incubator; and Nano Biology Center signed a memorandum of understanding to build and develop stem cell technology in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park on 3 August, 2011.
Accordingly, the Stem Cell Research Center will be built at the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park with activities from now until 2020 in order to create first human embryonic stem cell lines in Vietnam by IVF technology; building a bank of stem cells, embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells; training professionals ... towards comprehensive activities such as differentiation study, production of cell lines served for research and treatment. The Central Obstetrics Hospital also plans to open a stem cell faculty to pioneer the human resources for high-tech fields.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Van Lang emphasized that “Developing stem cell technologies is within the framework of biotechnology development in the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park. Therefore, Ministry of Science and Technology in general and Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park Management Board in particular highly appreciate and totally support for this project”.
