New President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front named

(09/01/2008) Huynh Dam, member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and former Vice President and Secretary-General of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, has been elected as President of the VFF.

The announcement was made at the fifth conference of the VFF Central Committee which closed in Hanoi on January 9 with the participation of Tong Thi Phong, National Assembly Vice Chairman and Ho Duc Viet, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organisation, and other officials from VFF chapters nationwide.


Vu Trong Kim, former Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation was also elected as Vice President and Secretary General of the VFF.


The three-day conference discussed and made decisions on key issues related to renovating VFF operations in 2008, promoting the people’s mastery of the country, participating in building a strong party and a socialist law-governed state, and improving the quality of patriotic movements, especially campaigns for the poor.


Participants highlighted the great contribution made by Pham The Duyet, former President of the VFF in the revolutionary cause over the past years, especially in building a national great unity bloc, and in improving the VFF’s position in the political system and in the whole of society.


After being elected as the VFF President, Mr Huynh Dam emphasised that he will continue to inherit and promote the VFF’s achievements, especially in strengthening the national great unity bloc, carrying out the VFF’s action plans to fulfill the socio-economic targets for 2008 and welcome the seventh national congress of the VFF.
